Giving up a claim after a breach

If someone breaks a contract, the hurt party can agree to give up their claim, in whole or in part, without getting anything in return. This agreement must be in writing and signed. It is a way to settle a dispute after the breach happens.

A claim or right arising out of an alleged breach may be discharged in whole or in part without consideration by agreement of the aggrieved party in a signed record.
