Lease terms cannot take away your rights

This law says that any lease or contract clause that tries to cancel out the rights this chapter gives you is invalid. You can still claim those rights even if your lease says otherwise. Any conflicting lease language is void.

The statute, as written — No estoppel or waiver

The rights granted to lessees by this chapter shall be effective, notwithstanding any provision in any lease or contract to the contrary. No lessee shall be estopped by any covenant, term, condition, or contract, however worded, from claiming the rights granted to the lessee or otherwise be deemed to have waived such right. Any provision in any lease or contract contrary to the intent or purpose of this chapter is void.
