How long a rental agreement can last

A landlord and tenant can choose any length for a rental agreement if they put it in writing. If they do not agree in writing, the tenancy is month to month, or week to week for boarders.

The landlord and tenant may agree in writing to any period as the term of the rental agreement. In the absence of such agreement, the tenancy shall be month to month or, in the case of boarders, week to week.
