Time limit for suing over injury or property damage

If someone hurts you or damages your property, you have two years from when the harm happened to file a lawsuit asking for money. After that time, you cannot sue, unless a special exception in another law applies.

The statute, as written — Damage to persons or property

Actions for the recovery of compensation for damage or injury to persons or property shall be instituted within two years after the cause of action accrued, and not after, except as provided in section 657-13.
