Lying under oath is a crime

This law makes it a crime to lie under oath when the law requires or allows the oath. You must believe your statement is true when you make it. If you lie, it is a petty misdemeanor.

(1) A person commits the offense of false swearing if the person makes, under oath required or authorized by law, a false statement which the person does not believe to be true. (2) False swearing is a petty misdemeanor.
