Time limit for starting forfeiture cases

This section sets the deadline for starting a forfeiture case. It says the case can be started any time within the same time limit that applies to starting a criminal case for the related offense. This overrides other rules about time limits.

The statute, as written — Limitation of actions

Notwithstanding any other provision of law, forfeiture proceedings under this chapter may be commenced at any time within the period in which a criminal proceeding may be instituted for a covered offense pursuant to section 701-108.
