Taximeter registration and inspection before taxi use

The owner or driver must bring the taxi for inspection on the date the office sets. The inspection covers the meter and all parts that affect it.

(a) No driver or owner of a taxicab shall offer or let the taxicab for hire unless the taximeter installed therein or adjusted for any change in mileage rate is first registered with and inspected by the State division of measurements standards and found to calculate and register fares correctly in conformity with the rates as set forth in this article and a seal attesting thereto is placed on the taximeter. (b) It shall be the duty of the owner or driver of any taxicab equipped with a taximeter to submit the taxicab to the State division of measurements standards for inspection, testing, and sealing on the date established by the division. Every inspection shall include the examination and inspection of the taximeter affixed in the taxicab, every wheel, tire, gear shaft, and every part of the taxicab which may affect or control the operation of the taximeter.
