Public works director's duties and responsibilities

The public works director is in charge of county buildings, grounds, and construction projects, and enforces the county's construction codes. The director also manages the department's divisions and staff, including hiring and firing.

The director of public works shall be charged with the supervision, direction, and control of: (1) The construction, repair, maintenance, and operation of all County buildings, structures, and grounds, not otherwise delegated to any other department of the County; (2) The administration and enforcement of the County construction code that includes collectively: the construction administrative code; the building code; the electrical code; the energy conservation code; and the plumbing code, as well as all ordinances and statutes related to the responsibilities assigned to the department of public works; and (3) The administration, control, and operation of all divisions and bureaus of the department of public works and the appointment, transfer, promotion, demotion, or dismissal of all necessary personnel.
