Rules for buildings started before the new code

This section says that if construction on a building legally started before December 7, 1996, or before any later change to this chapter, the building can be finished and will be treated as an existing building from that date. It applies to buildings that were already underway when the rules took effect.

Any building upon which construction was lawfully begun prior to December 7, 1996, or any subsequent amendments to this chapter may be completed and thereafter shall be considered an existing building at the time of the effective date of this chapter (December 7, 1996) or amendment.
