HCC §25-4-41

Rules for odd-shaped building lots

Read the official text at hawaiicounty.gov ↗

This section tells how to measure the required open space (yards) on triangular or irregular lots. For a triangular lot, measure the rear yard from the point farthest from the street, like a corner lot. If the lot is so irregular that normal yard lines can't be set, the county director will look at the lot and nearby properties and decide the required yards.

(a) On any triangular-shaped building site, the rear yard shall be measured from the point most nearly opposite the street line and in the same manner as for a corner building site. (b) In the event a building site is so irregular in shape that it is impossible to establish side and rear yards, the director shall view the relationship between the building site and surrounding property and shall specify the required yards.
