Engineering study for traffic calming on county streets

The County Engineer must have an engineering study done for certain county streets to check safety and traffic problems and to pick the right traffic calming measures. The study follows standard engineering and street design guidelines from national and state groups.

An engineering study shall be conducted to document safety and traffic concerns, and to determine the appropriate type of traffic calming measure(s), for a County street(s), as determined by the County Engineer in consideration of engineering and street design guidelines and standards, such as those promulgated by the Federal Highway Administration, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, the National Association of City Transportation Officials, the Institute of Transportation Engineers, the Hawai'i Department of Transportation and the County of Kaua'i Department of Public Works.
