Parking rules on highways outside towns

On highways outside business or residential areas, you cannot stop or park on the paved road if you can safely pull off. If you must stop, leave 10 feet of clear road and be visible from 200 feet. Disabled vehicles are exempt if you take safety precautions.

Upon any highway outside of a business or residential district, no person shall stop, park or leave standing any vehicle, whether attended or unattended, upon the paved or main traveled part of the highway when it is practical to stop, park or to leave the vehicle off such part of the highway, but in every event an unobstructed width of ten (10) feet of the highway opposite a standing vehicle shall be left for free passage of other vehicles and a clear view of a stopped vehicle shall be available from a distance of two hundred (200) feet in each direction upon the highway.This Section shall not apply to the driver of any vehicle which is disabled while on the paved or main traveled portion of a highway and in a manner and extent that is impossible to avoid stopping and temporarily leaving the disabled vehicle in that position, provided that the driver shall take reasonable precaution to prevent a collision with the disabled vehicle.
