What happens to money from selling a stray animal

After a stray animal is sold, the poundmaster must put the sale money, minus costs for impounding and advertising, into the County Treasury. The owner can claim the leftover money within one year of the sale. If no one claims it, the money becomes the County's.

The proceeds of the public sale, or a receipt therefor, given by the owner after paying the impounding expenses and the expenses of advertisement, shall be remitted by the poundmaster to the Treasury of the County, to be held as a special deposit subject to the order of the Council.If the owner of the estray shall substantiate his or her claim thereto within one (1) year after the sale of the estrays, the Council shall order the balance of the proceeds to be paid over to him or her. If the claim is not substantiated, the Council shall order the proceeds to be transferred and become a County realization.
