Fixing leaky private sewers connected to the public system

The County Engineer can require private sewer pipes connected to the public system to be checked for leaks. If too much groundwater gets in, the owner must fix it with approved methods within 120 days and pay for it. A leak is excessive if it lets in more than 200 gallons per day per inch of pipe diameter per mile.

Whenever deemed necessary by the County Engineer, all existing private sewers connected to the public system may and upon connection to the public system shall be inspected and tested for excessive infiltration. If the rate of infiltration is excessive, the owner, when informed by the County Engineer, shall effectuate remedial measures approved by the County Engineer within one hundred twenty (120) days at his or her own expense. Infiltration in excess of two hundred (200) gallons per day per inch of diameter of pipe per mile of pipe shall be considered excessive.
