The ordinance, as written (Kauaʻi County) — Duration of Hearing—Determination

A copy, taken August 22, 2026. The version published by Kauaʻi County is the one that governs, and it may have changed since. Check it before relying on anything here.

The hearing may be continued from time to time, but shall be completed within thirty (30) days; except that, if the Council finds that the complexity of the proposed annexation or the need for public participation requires additional time, the hearing may be continued from time to time for a period not to exceed six (6) months. At the conclusion of the hearing, the Council may abandon the proceedings or, after considering all protests and such other relevant factors as it deems appropriate, may approve the ordinance of annexation (in the form in which it was introduced or with such changes as determined by the Council and permitted by this part). Thereafter, the County may levy the special tax on the annexed land.
