This section defines key terms used in the county rules about speed humps on county roads. It explains what a block, county highway, director, and speed hump mean. These definitions apply only to this chapter of the county code.

For purposes of this chapter, unless it is plainly evident from the context that a different meaning is intended, certain words and phrases used in this chapter are defined hereinbelow: "Block" means a segment of County highway bounded by successive cross streets. "County highway" means every highway, street or roadway under the jurisdiction and control of the County of Maui. "Director" means the director of public works and environmental management. "Speed hump" means a traffic control device as described in "Guidelines for the Design and Application of Speed Humps, March 1993," or as amended, published by the Institute of Transportation Engineers.
