Whenever used in this chapter, unless the context otherwise requires:
"Base course" means the layer or layers of specified material or selected material
of a designed thickness to support a surface course.
"County projects" means any construction funded exclusively by the County or by the
County with State and/or federal matching funds and undertaken by or for any County
agency for the public's use, including but not limited to, roadway or bikeway paving
and repaving, any construction requiring nonstructural backfill, or other aggregate.
"Director" means the director of the department of public works and waste management,
County of Maui.
"Nonstructural backfill" means backfill in areas not subject to structural loading,
including but not limited to, utility line bedding, drainage backfill behind retaining
walls, drainage line backfill in leach fields or french drains, and other similar
uses.
"Specified aggregate" means the type and quality of aggregate specified for a County
project in the Hawaii standard specifications for road, bridge and public works construction,
1994 edition, as amended.
