Ban on certain concrete anchors near slab edges

This rule bans using certain steel strap anchors on the edges of concrete slabs unless the steel is protected by enough concrete or another approved covering. It applies to new construction using slab-on-grade foundations.

Section 1904 of the International Building Code is amended adding subsection 1904.3 to read as follows: 1904.3 Concrete Strap Type Anchors. Concrete strap-type anchors made out of cold-formed steel shall not be used along the perimeter edges of a slab on grade where the steel does not have at least 1-½ inches side cover or other adequate protection.
