Preparing and submitting a preliminary plat

The person dividing land must hire a surveyor to draw a preliminary plat and any required improvement plans, then submit them to the county department. If only part of a larger property is being divided, the county may ask for a sketch of the rest.

A. The subdivider shall have prepared by a surveyor a preliminary plat, together with such improvement plans and other supplementary material required to indicate the general program and objectives of the project. Copies of the preliminary plat in the amount required by the director and other supplementary material shall be submitted to the department. B. Where the area to be subdivided is only a part of a larger tract owned or controlled by the subdivider, the director may require a sketch of a tentative layout for streets in the unsubdivided portion.
