This rule controls what new street names can be used in the County. It stops duplicate or confusing names, allows similar names for street extensions, and requires approval before the final map is filed.

The ordinance, as written (Maui County) — Street names

A copy, taken August 21, 2026. The version published by Maui County is the one that governs, and it may have changed since. Check it before relying on anything here.

No street names shall be used which may duplicate or may be confused with the names of existing streets within the County; provided, that identical or similar names may be used to name extensions of existing streets. Street names shall conform to the established pattern in the County and shall be subject to the approval of the street naming commission and adoption of same by the council.
