This section creates the Maui County urban design review board and sets who serves on it. The mayor appoints members with council approval. Members serve five-year terms, get no pay, but can be repaid for travel and other job expenses.

A. There is established a Maui County urban design review board. B. The board shall consist of nine members and four alternates. The members shall consist of two registered architects, one registered landscape architect, two registered civil engineers and four persons with interest or experience in urban planning, fine arts, beautification, conservation, or historic preservation. One member shall be a resident of the island of Molokai and one member shall be a resident of the island of Lanai. The four alternate members shall consist of two registered architects, one registered landscape architect and one registered civil engineer. C. The members of the board shall be appointed by the mayor with the approval of the council. The members of the board shall serve for a term of five years; provided, however, such members shall serve for staggered terms pursuant to section 13-2.1 of the revised charter of the county (1989 edition). D. All members shall serve without compensation, but members shall be entitled to receive actual travel and other expenses incurred in the performance of their duties. (Ord. 1932 § 1, 1990)
