This section explains the board's duties. The board must advise the planning commission, follow its directions, review certain project plans, and make its own rules. It may also give design advice to the planning department.

A. The board shall advise the appropriate planning commission on matters within the jurisdiction of the planning commission and shall carry out such duties as may be delegated to it by the appropriate planning commission or as provided by law. B. The board may review and advise the planning department on design related matters involving projects within the county. C. The board, upon dissolution of the urban design review board, shall review project plans in accordance with the provisions of the special management area rules and regulations of the appropriate planning commission. D. The board shall adopt rules of practice and procedure, pursuant to chapter 91, Hawaiʻi Revised Statutes. (Ord. 1932 § 1, 1990)
