Federal law requires the designation of an entity known as a metropolitan planning
organization, or MPO, for each urbanized area with a population of more than 50,000
individuals to qualify the area to receive federal funding for transportation planning,
to act as a decision-making agency, and to carry out a continuing, cooperative, and
comprehensive transportation planning process with governmental agencies.
B.
The intent of this chapter is to establish the Maui MPO.
