How a Nominee Can Withdraw from Consideration

A person nominated for a position can step down by sending a written note to the council. Once the council gets that note, they must stop considering that person. If the mayor made the nomination, the council chair tells the mayor in writing, and the mayor must quickly suggest someone else.

Any nominee may withdraw from consideration by written notification to the council signed by the nominee. Upon receipt of notification of a nominee's withdrawal, the council shall not consider the nomination. In the case of the withdrawal of a nomination submitted by the mayor, the chair of the council shall notify the mayor in writing within five days of the withdrawal. Within twenty-one days after receipt of the notification from council, the mayor shall submit to the council the name of another nominee. (Ord. 3182 § 1 (part), 2004)
