The ordinance, as written (Maui County) — Residency requirements for board, commission, and committee members

A copy, taken August 21, 2026. The version published by Maui County is the one that governs, and it may have changed since. Check it before relying on anything here.

Only county residents are eligible for appointment to a board, commission, or committee, unless the council waives the residency requirement by a resolution adopted by a two-thirds vote. If a member of a board, commission, or committee ceases to be a resident of the County, the member must notify the mayor and council chair within ten days of their residency change. Residency outside of the County or failure to report a residency change outside of the County as required by this section is cause for removal. For this section, "resident" means a person who meets the requirements of a home exemption claim under section 3.48.450 other than the requirement to own and occupy real property as a principal home.
