How partial tax payments are applied

When you pay only part of a tax bill, the county applies your money to interest first, then penalties, and finally the main tax amount. This section only covers the order of applying partial payments.

Whenever a taxpayer makes a partial payment of a particular assessment of taxes, the amount received by the director shall first be credited to interest, then to penalties, and then to principal. (Ord. 1076 § 3 (part), 1980: prior code § 6-1.22)
