Police can move or tow illegally parked vehicles

Police can move a car parked illegally on a road, or make the driver move it, to get it off the main travel lanes. If a car is left unattended on a bridge, causeway, or tunnel and blocks traffic, police can have it towed to a safe place. The owner pays for the tow.

(a) Whenever any police officer finds a vehicle standing upon a highway in violation of any of the foregoing provisions, such officer is authorized to move the vehicle, or require the driver or other person in charge of the vehicle to move the same, to a position off the paved or main traveled part of such highway. (b) Whenever any police officer finds a vehicle unattended upon any bridge or causeway or in any tunnel where the vehicle constitutes an obstruction to traffic, such officer is authorized to provide for the removal of such vehicle to the nearest garage or other place of safety. (c) The expense incurred in the removal of such vehicle shall be borne by the owner of the vehicle. )
