What it means to yield the right-of-way

This section defines what it means to yield the right-of-way when a sign tells you to. You must let other vehicles or pedestrians go first, and only enter the intersection when it is clear.

For the purposes of this chapter, the following definition applies unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning. Yield Right-of-Way. When required by an official sign, the act of granting preference to another vehicle or pedestrian within the intersection, and to such vehicles or pedestrians approaching from the right or left, to proceed in a lawful manner, and proceeding into the intersection only when the roadway is clear. )
