Heavy vehicle ban on Tantalus Road

(a) A person may not drive any motor vehicle having an aggregate weight of vehicle and load in excess of 8 tons in either direction over that part of Tantalus Road beginning from the mauka side of Papakolea Bridge to the junction of Round Top-Makiki Road. (b) The foregoing provisions do not apply to an authorized emergency vehicle, as defined previously, while the driver of the vehicle is operating the same in an emergency in the necessary performance of the driver’s duties, nor to a vehicle, the owner or operator of which has obtained from the director of transportation services a permit authorizing the operation of the vehicle over the described road. The director of transportation services shall issue a permit only when it appears to the director’s satisfaction that an emergency exists necessitating the issuance of a permit. )
