Heavy vehicles banned on Ahuimanu Road

This rule stops anyone from driving a vehicle that weighs more than 10 tons on Ahuimanu Road between Ahuimanu Place and Kamehameha Highway. Emergency vehicles on duty and vehicles with a special permit from the transportation director are allowed. Permits are only given in emergencies.

(a) A person may not drive any vehicle in either direction over Ahuimanu Road between Ahuimanu Place and Kamehameha Highway when the vehicle, with or without load, weighs in excess of 10 tons. (b) The foregoing provision does not apply to an authorized emergency vehicle while the driver is operating such vehicle in the necessary performance of such driver’s duties, nor to a vehicle, the owner or operator of which has obtained from the director of transportation services a permit authorizing the operation of the vehicle over the described road. The director of transportation services shall issue a permit only when it appears to the director’s satisfaction that an emergency exists necessitating the issuance of a permit. )
