Speed limit zones

A person may not drive a vehicle on a public highway or street at a speed in excess of the following speed limit zones established or hereafter established therefor by ordinance of the council: (a) Fifteen miles per hour. (1) Any roadway 18 feet in width or less within the city; and (2) On those streets or portions thereof described in Schedule IV attached to the ordinance codified in this section and made a part thereof; subject, however, to the limitations and extensions set forth therein. (b) Twenty-five miles per hour. On those streets or portions thereof described in Schedule V attached to the ordinance codified in this section and made a part hereof;* subject, however, to the limitations and extensions set forth therein. (c) Thirty miles per hour. On those streets or portions thereof described in Schedule VI attached hereto and made a part hereof;* subject, however, to the limitations and extensions set forth therein. (d) Thirty-five miles per hour. On those streets or portions thereof described in Schedule VII attached to the ordinance codified in this section and made a part hereof;* subject, however, to the limitations and extensions set forth therein. (e) Forty-five miles per hour. On those streets or portions thereof described in Schedule VIII attached to the ordinance codified in this section and made a part hereof;* subject, however, to the limitations and extensions set forth therein. (f) Fifty miles per hour. On those streets or portions thereof described in Schedule IX attached to the ordinance codified in this section and made a part hereof;* subject, however, to the limitations and extensions set forth therein. (g) Sixty-five miles per hour. On those streets or portions thereof described in Schedule X attached to the ordinance codified in this section and made a part hereof;* subject, however, to the limitations and extensions set forth therein. (h) Fifty-five miles per hour. On those streets or portions thereof described in Schedule XXXIII attached to the ordinance codified in this section and made a part hereof;* subject, however, to the limitations and extensions set forth therein. (i) Ten miles per hour. On those streets or portions thereof described in Schedule XXXVII attached to the ordinance codified in this section and made a part hereof;* subject, however, to the limitations and extensions set forth therein. (j) Twenty miles per hour. (1) Any street or highway within the City and County of Honolulu where a speed limit has not been otherwise established; (2) Any roadway bordering any school grounds, during the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on school days, unless otherwise specified by the department of transportation services; and (3) On those streets or portions thereof described in Schedule attached to the ordinance codified in this section and made a part hereof; subject, however, to the limitations and extensions set forth therein. (4) Subdivision (2) does not apply to any roads owned by the State of Hawaii. (k) Forty miles per hour. On those streets or portions thereof described in Schedule XXXVIII attached to the ordinance codified in this section and made a part hereof; subject, however, to the limitations and extensions set forth therein. ) Editor’s note: *See listing of schedules at the end of this chapter. *In accordance with Ord. 24-32 , Schedule XL is substituted for the blank schedule number in § 15-7.2(j) as adopted by the Department of Transportation Services for roads with a speed limit of 20 miles per hour established in § 15-7.2(j). *In accordance with Ord. 24-32 , Schedule XXXVIII is substituted for the blank schedule number in § 15-7.2(k) until roads with a designated speed limit of 40 miles per hour are established by the Department of Transportation Services.
