This section explains what certain words mean in this part of the law. It defines driver's license, duplicate, instruction permit, and renewal. These definitions apply unless the context says otherwise.

For the purposes of this article, the following definitions apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning. Driver’s License. A license authorizing a person to operate the category of motor vehicles specified in HRS § 286-102. Duplicate. An instruction permit or driver’s license issued to replace one that is lost, destroyed, or illegible. Instruction Permit. The permit referred to in HRS § 286-110. Renewal. Any driver’s license issued to the same person after an original license or to the same person after the reissuance of a driver’s license. )
