This section explains what certain words mean in this part of the law. It defines an Automated External Defibrillator, when a train is in revenue service, and what counts as a train. These definitions apply unless the context clearly says otherwise.

For the purposes of this article, the following definitions apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning. Automated External Defibrillator. A portable electronic device, approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration, that is capable of diagnosing cardiac arrhythmias and that uses defibrillation to reestablish an effective cardiac rhythm. Revenue Service. The time when a train is available to carry passengers and provide transit service. Trains operated in fare-free service are considered in revenue service. Revenue service excludes train testing and maintenance. Train. Four passenger cars coupled together and propelled by self-contained motor equipment to provide transit service on a fixed rail guideway system operated by the city.
