Fire chief's duties for fire safety and equipment

The fire chief must prevent fires and protect people and property from fire. The chief must report fire losses to the mayor, take care of fire department equipment, and control who can repair or refill portable fire extinguishers.

The fire chief shall be charged with the prevention of fires and the protection of life and property against fire and shall: (1) Report losses. Report all fire losses periodically to the mayor; (2) Maintain equipment. Be responsible for the maintenance and care of all property and equipment used by the fire chief’s department; and (3) Fire extinguishers.
