This section lists the jobs of the city's design and construction department. It handles building city buildings and grounds, buying land for public projects, and providing engineering help for public works. It does not cover sewer work.

The department of design and construction shall be responsible for: (1) The planning, engineering, design, and construction of city buildings, structures, and grounds, except as otherwise provided by the Charter or ordinance; (2) Surveys, title searching, appraising, and negotiation for acquisition of lands and easements for rights-of-way for street widening and extensions, sewers, water, drainage, and other public uses; and (3) Planning, engineering, design, and construction services and expertise as needed for public works and improvement district functions other than for sewers.
