Hotel register rules and inspection

Hotels must keep a guest register as required by state law. The register must be available for police inspection at any time. Breaking these rules can lead to state penalties or a fine and jail time.

(a) Every owner, keeper, or proprietor of any hotel shall keep a register in accordance with HRS Chapter 486K. (b) The owner, keeper, or proprietor shall at all times make the register available for inspection by the chief of police upon the chief’s request. (c) A violation of subsection (a) shall be subject to punishment in accordance with State law. A violation of subsection (b) shall be subject to a fine of $200, imprisonment for up to 30 days, or both. )
