Rules for fixing leaky private sewers connected to the city system

The city can check private sewers that connect to the public system for leaks. If a sewer leaks too much, the owner must fix it within 30 days and pay for the follow-up inspection. All private sewers must also follow the general sewer rules in another section.

(a) Inspection after connection. Existing private sewers connected to the public system may be inspected and tested for excessive infiltration whenever deemed necessary by the director. If the rate of infiltration is excessive, the owner, when informed by the director, shall effect approved remedial measures within 30 days. Infiltration in excess of 500 gallons per day per inch of diameter of pipe per mile of pipe shall be considered excessive. The cost of inspection after corrective action has been completed shall be paid by the owner. (b) Restrictions. All private sewers connected to the public systems shall be governed by § 43-1.6 . )
